Halak Finally Cleared for Activity
Three months ago Jaroslav Halak suffered a high-ankle sprain in the first round of the playoffs against the San Jose Sharks when teammate Barret Jackman collided into the netminder. At the time, the injury wasn't believed to be too severe and it was thought Halak might be able to return at some point during the team's playoff run. Obviously this was not the case. Instead, some three months after the initial injury, Halak will be cleared to resume activitiy on Saturday (Post-Dispatch). Halak is still not at 100%. He'll have to begin conditioning and training in order to get back in shape to be ready for training camp. It's crazy to think that during the playoffs the team waited until the second round against Los Angeles to completely rule Halak out of the playoffs only to have the injury persist for the following three months. The team was probably just using a bit of strategy to deceive their opponent but it still has been surprising that it took Halak this long to be cleared just to resume normal activities. With Halak set to be cleared on Saturday of this week, the netminder can attempt to get back in the swing of his normal summer conditioning program. Despite the delay in Halak's preparation, GM Doug Armstrong fully believes that Halak will be ready to go prior to training camp.
