St. Louis Prospect Jordan Binnington CHL Goaltender of the Week
St. Louis prospect Jordan Binnington has been named the CHL goaltender of the week for the week ending in February 12th after going 3-0-0 with a 0.97 GAA and a save percentage of .972 with the Owen Sound Attack, as reported by HockeysFuture
. Binnington was selected by the St. Louis Blues in the third round of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.
We're well aware of the depth in net for the St. Louis Blues with Jaroslav Halak and Brian Elliott securing the crease at the NHL level. Below them is Ben Bishop, an outstanding goaltender for the Peoria Rivermen, and Jake Allen. There's a ton of talent in these four goaltenders and it appears St. Louis might have drafted another quality goaltender to their ranks, though it is pretty early to make that judgement.
Jordan Binnington (or @binnnasty
on Twitter) was named the CHL goaltender of the week due to his outstanding play over the course of three games. He won all three contests, one of which was a shutout, while maintaining a tidy GAA under one. Binnington made 105 saves over the course of these three games.
In 2011-12, Binnington has a line of 17-13-1 with a 3.07 GAA and a save percentage of .902. Previously, he was named the Top Goaltender of the 2011 MasterCard Memorial Cup.
At just 18, Binnington still has a long road of development ahead of him. It's far too early to make any major assessments about Binnington but it is nice to see him performing well in the CHL.
